Elisha Helps a Widow and Her Sons

4:1 Now a wife of one of the prophets ⁵  appealed ⁶  to Elisha for help, saying, “Your servant, my husband is dead. You know that your servant was a loyal follower of the Lord. ⁷  Now the creditor is coming to take away my two boys to be his servants.”

5:8 When Elisha the prophet ⁸  heard that the king had torn his clothes, he sent this message to the king, “Why did you tear your clothes? Send him ⁹  to me so he may know there is a prophet in Israel.”

5:13 His servants approached and said to him, “O master, ¹⁰  if the prophet had told you to do some difficult task, ¹¹  you would have been willing to do it. ¹²  It seems you should be happy that he simply said, “Wash and you will be healed.” ¹³

5:22 He answered, “Everything is fine. ¹⁴  My master sent me with this message, ‘Look, two servants of the prophets just arrived from the Ephraimite hill country. ¹⁵  Please give them a talent ¹⁶  of silver and two suits of clothes.’”

6:12 One of his advisers said, “No, my master, O king. The prophet Elisha who lives in Israel keeps telling the king of Israel the things you say in your bedroom.”

Hezekiah is Healed

20:1 In those days Hezekiah was stricken with a terminal illness. ²²  The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz visited him and told him, “This is what the Lord says, ‘Give your household instructions, for you are about to die; you will not get well.’” ²³

20:14 Isaiah the prophet visited King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men say? Where do they come from?” Hezekiah replied, “They come from the distant land of Babylon.”

All the people were there, from the youngest to the oldest. He read aloud ²⁴  all the words of the scroll of the covenant that had been discovered in the Lord’s temple.
